Spiffing it up… wtf? http://air-lobster.com/blog/2012/05/13/spiffing-it-up/ http://air-lobster.com/blog/2012/05/13/spiffing-it-up/#comments Sun, 13 May 2012 06:44:13 +0000 Administrator http://air-lobster.com/blog/?p=1376 Thought it was time to change some of the imagery on the site, so I popped a few different cartoons on the main blog here. I’m having issues myself with ‘em showing up – even after I cleared my cache — and I’m having trouble understanding why. I seem to have issues with this site only, and only after I installed Wordpress on it.

It’s annoying.

I never had this issue before, but the images just don’t show right via the browser(s), any browsers. They show up fine via direct link, though!

eBay sales on plushes & toys continue http://air-lobster.com/blog/2012/05/11/ebay-sales-on-plushes-toys-continue/ http://air-lobster.com/blog/2012/05/11/ebay-sales-on-plushes-toys-continue/#comments Fri, 11 May 2012 18:38:30 +0000 Administrator http://air-lobster.com/blog/?p=1369 Look out, because I feel the NEED to purge all my old stuff again. I hate being bipolar. A normal person would be like, ‘hey, I should sell these thousands of toys slowly, over the course of a year or more’, while I’m more like ‘GET THEM OUT GET THEM OUT GET THEM -’

*ahem*

I’d like to have my room back, so I’m stepping it up a bit. Please keep checking back for more, including around 30 or more Zhu-Zhu pets, Muppet toys, puppets, a Sonic the Hedgehog plush… you know. Cool shit. (LOL)

You can get to the page where I have everything up for sale right here (it changes every week or more).

Free Realms Trading Scam http://air-lobster.com/blog/2012/05/10/free-realms-trading-scam/ http://air-lobster.com/blog/2012/05/10/free-realms-trading-scam/#comments Thu, 10 May 2012 02:53:53 +0000 Administrator http://air-lobster.com/blog/?p=1364 First off, reminding those new to the blog that I have the PS3 version of the game. Lifetime member.

Be careful when someone – anyone — asks you to trade in Free Realms. This should be said for anywhere you have a trading option, of course, but I’ve seen this happen too many times on this game now to me personally. I backed out each time and both “ignored” and reported the user(s) who tried this, as you should do when (if) it ever happens to you.

It’s the Birthday bash this week – but I just started playing and I don’t have a leveled up Warrior or Medic to get the special (“jonin”) balloon weapons from “Cakenstein”. So I sent a trade chat out, saying I’d swap the extras of those I did have (Brawler, Archer, Ninja) for the other two. I did get a nibble, and the chat was extremely long and tedious, the person seemingly unable to understand that “that sounds great” meant “yes” and such. I know kids play this game, so I was tolerant, but seriously… -_- I was alerted by the fact that they wouldn’t accept a friend request until I ‘ported to them, on their terms, and by the fact that they kept babbling “jonin, jonin” at me – (YES they are, the weapons, why are you saying it a million times)??!!

The trade fell through once because he cancelled. I said, ‘no trade?’, and he came back – but this time, offered me 1 balloon weapon and an eggbeater (junk). I immediately stopped and didn’t click ‘yes’ on his side, because I saw what he did was quickly delete the rare weapon, hoping I wouldn’t see and would go through with it, leaving me with junk and him getting my rare. I cancelled the trade this time, deleted him from my list, ignored him and reported.

This is basically a “bait and switch” and it’s happened to me (well, kids have tried it) several times. Now I don’t trade anything at all since there isn’t a failsafe to stop them from doing it. It isn’t worth it.

Stuffed Animal Lots (many with rare add-ins, as I have so many the only way to clean them out is to add extras in). Many have toys like Dr. Seuss, promotional items, or even antiques!

and

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle stuffed animals for sale! This lot has a plush Playmates licensed Michelangelo as well as a smaller (8″) Nanco Raphael.

And a batch of old antique plushes, including an Ollie gator with tush tag still there (barely hanging on, but still there).

Free Realms (PS3) Users Suck http://air-lobster.com/blog/2012/04/29/free-realms-ps3-users-suck/ http://air-lobster.com/blog/2012/04/29/free-realms-ps3-users-suck/#comments Sun, 29 Apr 2012 17:05:42 +0000 Administrator http://air-lobster.com/blog/?p=1348 The general populace seems to be children, ages ranging from young brat to bratty teen. I’ve found only two or three friendly, kind, nice people in the game so far.

I’ve spent quite a bit on the game, see, and I have a great house with all sorts of cool things in it. Lots of mounts (my favorite thing in the game), potions for illusions to change me into all kinds of neat things, stereos, party crates, etc. etc. The losers there will gladly take my free stuff I offer …

… and then ask for more, without giving anything in return.

No thank you’s, for the most part, and no help getting the trading trophy (how dare I ask to trade, even if I’M GIVING THEM SOMETHING COOL) because it won’t be the super-expensive thing they want. I can’t even say ‘just send me one coin and I’ll send you an illusion’, because the fucking game censors half of what I say! Yesterday I tried to get the “Trade with 5 other people” trophy, and I got one single trade out of I can’t even guess how many punks refused, laughed at me, started to trade and then cancelled it, started screaming ‘No, no way, never,” in my face, and, well, you guessed it. Were just plain rude. One asshole even had the ‘barterer’ title – which means he had the trophy, for @#$%’s sake. One kept screaming “I WANT TO BE AN ANIMAL, HOW YOU DO DAT” and then ignored every time I told him and tried to send over the item that would help him.

It’s enough to make me scream.

One person was kind enough to swap with me and said thank you back.

I’ll never get the “invite 25 people to a group” one. I could have platinum’d this, but for the losers in-game that make it a bad experience. The game is fun, sure, when you’re NOT interacting with others. Start to, and it becomes a nightmare – AND IT’S AN MMORG! The whole idea is interaction!

Oh, and another thing, FR gamers – I’m sick of people whining and screaming at me when I “refuse” an invite or don’t respond in 5 seconds to something you say to me. More often than not, these babies then take themselves off my friends list. Throw a tantrum because I’M IN THE BATHROOM?! Or shopping in the store? Or, heaven forbid, playing a mini-game? I can’t respond when playing minis in-game, and Free Realms sets it up so that it doesn’t say ‘the person is playing a mini game and can’t respond’. What does it say? That I “rejected” it, which I didn’t, because I didn’t even SEE it. (And yes, as for my trades rejected I was ranting about before, I take that into consideration. The people actually text ‘no’ to me or reject multiple times). This would be fixed if I could play the games when I’m in my house, which I can’t, I have to be outside with interactive players. Since I’m a grinder, I set myself in some out-of-the-way spot and play games to level up fast. I try to hide! But it never works, someone always finds me and starts asking for free things, money, shirts, whatever. From my days on all sorts of online games I recognize kids when I hear them – they ALWAYS want a handout. They expect it. And when you say no – or don’t respond — they get angry, like they deserved it! The game’s not hard, you know. It just takes time to play. Last night I used a leveled up character and gained 11k in half an hour playing a short and fun mini game. Why beg for money? Sheesh.

So I guess I have to just hold my breath and play the game for fun, like I used to do before trophies. Another reason for me to dislike trophies, of course, because when I’m through with all I can reasonably get I normally don’t play a game again. Even if it’s fun. I was hoping that this cool cartoony world would be a haven for me, and I think it may, to some degree. But I’d better give up on finding friendly people.

Most Commonly Asked Free Realms Questions (that you can’t find on the internet) http://air-lobster.com/blog/2012/04/18/most-commonly-asked-free-realms-questions-that-you-cant-find-on-the-internet/ http://air-lobster.com/blog/2012/04/18/most-commonly-asked-free-realms-questions-that-you-cant-find-on-the-internet/#comments Wed, 18 Apr 2012 21:58:27 +0000 Administrator http://air-lobster.com/blog/?p=1343 I started thinking the other day.

I know, shock.

But seriously, ever since I started playing the PS3 version of Free Realms,  I’ve been boggled by a few questions that I was not able to find on the internet. I Googled and Googled, but found nothing: only, at one instance, someone else begging someone to answer them on a Youtube clip. (They never got answered, by the way). So here’s a list of things that the game doesn’t tell you and some other snippets…

How do I enable Text Chat?

I believe this is a member-only function on the PS3. However, it’s as easy as pressing the L2 button. Be aware that the game censors anything you might say over the level of a Primary Reader (“See Spot Run”). Words I’ve found censored so far:

harmless
avatar (also “avvy”, “av”, etc)
icon
the pronoun “I” (as in “I like dogs”)

Anything they think is “naughty” will show up as the number sign only – “###”. Get used to it, because the censoring is legendary. It’s the reason I couldn’t have my username “Elly Sketchit”, because the censors picked up on what I assume was the “chit”, thinking I was trying to say “shit”.

*rolls eyes*

How do you get Illusions?

I’ve heard this a lot (and encountered the issue myself). How do you get more illusions that turn you into cool things? Aside from buying them at the Market Place for actual cash, you should see the Crab Cake one yourself in the Coin Shop. It’s 200 coins and it transforms you into an awesome crab for 30 minutes.

For the others, a kind player showed me where to get some: go to the Greenwood Forest and play the game “Treeble Race“. You’ll get a lot of camp crap – banners and tents and totems — but eventually you’ll start getting illusions so you can turn yourself into a marshmallow, a treeble, and more!

How do you get the “place 1,000 items in a home” trophy?

Got this last night, so adding it in as promised to this previous blog post. This trophy isn’t cumulative. It’s just like the 100 items one… put 1,000 items in all in one area you own. What I did was cook things from the main menu during extra+coin time (member only) in my fully leveled Chef job. I also have the extra coin drop shard attached. I played quite a few rounds of the mining game as well, since I kick ass at the matching stuff and that gives you ore you can sell for quite a lot more than the farming ones.

It took 45,000 coins to get the trophy and I ended up at the end after reselling the junk I bought for it with 10,000+. What I did was buy barrels and anything that cost 45 coins (the lowest priced items). After locking the home so no one would barge in while I was “in the zone” (lol) I dropped it all down. You can set the decorator at “snap to grid” and then line everything up in rows outside the house, I found that was the easiest way. Sometimes, with small chests, you can place up to 5 or 6 directly inside one another! The trophy pops up after the game shows you’ve achieved it.

What does “jonin” mean?

Apparently, although this is a “ninja” term, it just means any item that is “rare and not purchasable”. There are pieces of clothing, for instance, like the “Shredding Chef” ensemble, that you can’t buy for coins or dollars of real money. You have to play the games – “Moonbean Mousse” is one — and spin the wheel at the end, hoping to get the rare item. Or, for the Adventurer items, you get some from finding all the coins in an area. (Stupid me, however, sold my brown stuff because I didn’t like it early on, then realized I couldn’t get it again…lol).

Friend me on FR, I’m “Elly Roronoa” – with the guild “Strawhat Pirates” (I can hook you up with an invite as I’m Guildmaster, lol).

I’m also trying to get the “25 in a group” trophy – and good LORD that one’s irritating. The “invite 5 to a group” was hard enough, what with EVERYONE rejecting, even as I tried to explain that I didn’t want to cart them around FR, I just wanted to invite them then they could leave. UGHHH.

Free Realms on the PS3 http://air-lobster.com/blog/2012/04/15/free-realms-on-the-ps3/ http://air-lobster.com/blog/2012/04/15/free-realms-on-the-ps3/#comments Sun, 15 Apr 2012 18:50:57 +0000 Administrator http://air-lobster.com/blog/?p=1340 So I finally got around to re-downloading “Free Realms” again.

What the hell is that, you ask? Well, according to their website:

Free Realms is a free 3D virtual world where you can do whatever you want, whenever you want! Jump in straight from your web browser *(edit: or PS3)! Once you create your character, you’ll be in and playing in just a few minutes.

Decorate your house, then invite your friends over for a party! Teach your pet a new trick or dress them up in a sweet costume! Battle enemies as you search for lost treasure or duel other players, mine for gold, cook up a meal, or race your car! When you’re ready for a different kind of challenge, play a wide variety of fun minigames, jump into the trading card game or check up with your friends on your profile page. Free Realms is the place to join up with your friends to discover, explore, compete, chat, share achievements and just have fun! In Free Realms, YOU RULE.

It’s basically a beginner’s MMO, so I decided to give it a try seeing as how I like open world shit. Starting with the free game, I’ve probably spent way too much already (which is how these things are designed and tells me I should never, ever join another for the sake of our budget)!

Anyway, I’m having fun. To begin with, though, I wanted my name – the only name I use, really — but they wouldn’t let me even put “Elly Sketchit” up to be reviewed. They said it contained questionable content. I examined it for over a day before I realized they possibly think the “chit” on the end is me being a dork and trying to say “shit”. But – but it’s not a bad word, so they should have at least reviewed it! I had to get Elly Roronoa reviewed (which they finally accepted). So… a bit pissed off there at how I can’t have the one and only name I’ve used everywhere for like, what, 20 years now. But it’s kind of a lot of fun, so I squelched my annoyance (yes, I can do that). There are trophies for the PS3, which I now have 6 or so after a day’s worth of playing, so they’re not that hard. The game consists of partying, decorating your home, exploring and playing minigames to level up your chosen “profession”. I adore the matching game, which they overuse like crazy, so it doesn’t bother me. Others might find it a little repetitive.

The biggest problem I have is about the “tiny” size of the map and texts! GEEZ! I’m near-sighted, and I’m going nearly crazy playing the games and trying to read the map all the time. It’s got me going bonkers every time I need to see which farm has what fruit on it. Oh, and the point-and-click interface of the main map doesn’t work when every single tiny speck pops up a bubble that says what it is. The bubble then hides everything I’m trying to actually see, and it won’t go away until I pass further on, far away from what I wanted to look at, and since the map’s huge, I then forget where the speck was I was TRYING to see. Ugh.

Oh, and there’s not really a lot of people.

That’s good and bad, really. I don’t have any friends yet (bad), but I haven’t been harassed at all (good).

So anyway, I’ve a huge house that I’m fixing up, all pirate-and-fish-themed, so if you’re on the PS3 version of Free Realms, look me up! Again I’m “Elly Roronoa” there – missing my Sketchit name, but oh well. LOL.
